How to geotag your flickr photos with your iPhone 3G/3GS

In recent years, geo-tagged photos became more and more popular on Flickr (and other photo sharing websites). You can find a lot ways to geo-tag your photos online.
Let’s say, you don’t have a fancy DSLR w/ built-in GPS. You can’t afford a $1k WFT-E2/E2A plus a $100+ GPS device (if you’er a Canon guy
). And, you accidentally owned a iPhone 3G or 3GS. Here is a good news for you: you can geo-tag your photos automatically for free (well… almost). You can find a bunch of geo-tagging apps from the app store. The one I’m using is call “GeoLogTag“. The method here is similar as those geo-taging devices: recoded your geo-locations second by second or minute by minute during you photography trip. And, when you back to home, you will have to upload GPX files to your computer. Then you use a software, like ExpertGPS, to tag your photos base on the time stamp of each photos. With GeoLogTag, the process here is much simpler:
- Just before you start your photo trip, disable WIFI from your iPhone, start the GeoLogTag, then switch it to “On”
- You can chose the app to record your location continuously, every 3 mins, every 5 mins, or every 10 mins. Of course, the longer the interval here, the longer battery life you will get on your phone, but the downturn: your GPX will NOT be very accurate (unless, you did move…
). Notice the numbers below the switch? The number before the slash indicate how many locations recorded in this trip. The number after the slash is for the total number of locations has kept in the app. So, the above screen shot shows I have 0 on the current trip, and 47 locations kept in the past - Put your iPhone back to your packet, and start to click on shutter:-p
- Once you done your shooting, go to the app, turn off the switch, and drive home safe!
- Do your regular post process routines, upload your fantastic works to Flickr
- Open “GeoLogTag”, tap on “GeoTag” tab, link your flickr account with the app if you have not done it yet. Then tap the “0″ beside your account name. The app will check your recent uploaded photos, finding matched time stamps with GPXs. After the checking, the app will let your know how many paired flickr photos
can be geo-tagged.Tap on the red mark on right, the app will tag your photos automatically:
- e……. I guess we are done here, is that simple? go to check your flickr photos, they should alread geo-tagged!
